I have listened to this song many a times, and I liked this song very much. Not only I knew that this song was sung by Mukesh, I was also aware that the movie was called “Raaste ka pathar”.

The music of “Pakeeza” though considered outdated by the standards of 1970s by aam janta ( like yours truly) became surprisingly popular. two of the songs from this in movie in fact became second and third in Binaca geetmala final of 1972.

1972 was the year when many Bollywood movie makers decided to hitch the bandwagon turned Juggernaut of Kishore Kumar- RD Burman combination. And the result were some movies that had music by R D Burman and songs by Kishore, but the movies themselves were no great shakes.

Early years of 1970s saw a trend ( short lived though) where we had some songs where the the lyrics were quite direct. Wow ! This was a song that I liked very much those days, before I forgot all about it since the song stopped playing on radio and loudspeakers. And now I have listened to this song once again after some 35 years.
