Shankar Jaikishan were the biggest names among Bollywood music directors for nearly two decades from 1950s to 1960s. It was in 1970 that Jaikishan died. Meanwhile “Mera Naam Joker” flopped big time. The two leading Bollywood men, who looked like they could sweet ladies off their feet with effortless ease were Shammi Kapoor and Dharmendra. And here Dharmendra works his charms on Supriya Chowdhury.

I have posted many songs of Rafi in this blog, and in each song I have raved about his voice. In fact one cannot help but remark on his voice quality whatever the song. In every song, he appered to give his very best.

Bollywood songs typically follow a few set patterns when it comes to their picturisation. Songs that are sung by the lead pair tend to be picturised with them running round trees ( I am told) and later running around open spaces ( presumably as a result of deforestation leading to absence of trees to run [...]

It is one of the iconic songs of 1970s. It is the title song of the movie “Chalte Chalte”. It was a small budget off beat movie. The lead actors in this movie were Vishal Anand ( credited as Vishal in the movie), Simi Garewal and Nazneen.

1980 was the decade when I started losing track of bollywood movies and its songs. Gone was the meticulous record keeping of songs etc. Songs and movies in that decade passed like a blur before my eyes, without registering much in my brain.

“Loafer” saw Mumtaz teaming up with Dharmendra. This movie was full of very popular songs. Laxmikant Pyarelal’s music and Anand Bakshi’s lyrics created songs which were quite a rage in those days.

This song was one of the earliest songs that left an indelible mark in my tender mind. I could identify the voice of Rafi even those days, but the concept of lyricists and music directors was not yet known to me at that time.

I have posted a few songs in this blog that I call “chitthi” songs. In all those songs, the words “chitthi”, “daakiya” or “sandeshe” was mentioned prominently. These chitthis were written by near and dear ones staying in far flung areas.

It is a very sweet song to listen to. Almost everyone associated in this song ( except the lyricist) was a newcomer to Bollywood industry and was trying to find his/ her feet. But their collaboration created this masterpiece that is remembered fondly to this day.
